Research theme

For my research activity, I am interested in analyzing the cognitive processes in 3D collaborative systems, such as online virtual communities. The final aim is to identify some guidelines for the development of a theoretical model of a collaborative system for the communication of cultural heritage.

In other words, before designing technological systems, it is necessary to develop an epistemological approach to virtual musealization,. If technology can stimulate additional creative processes on the user's comprehension paths, it is also asked to give strength to the transfer of contents, without distorting or altering the meaning of cultural heritage.

Edutainment policies underline the importance of the communicative, didactical and entertaining aspects of museums, while experimenting the potentialities of technology to increase physical and cognitive accessibility to cultural heritage. Also, edutainment's promoters implicitly recognize that affection and emotions are the core conditions for thought and cognition. Consequently, they recognize that in order for a learning process to be activated in both virtual and real museums, it is very relevant the active participation of a user in the process of attribution of a meaning to a cultural object and to the understanding and retention of the acquired information.

Therefore, focusing on the relationships between users, and between users and cultural objects within a synthetic environment, could generate those discontinuities, those unpredictable cognitive and affective redundancies which are at the core of a learning processes.
